SECONDCHANCE / PRIVACY

Privacy, without the fine-print maze.

01

Scope and operator

This policy applies to SecondChance, a privately operated Discord moderation, restricted-account, staff-accountability, appeal-support and configured news-relay bot. It is used only in communities where Thenics works with, or forms part of, the authorized server staff. Thenics operates SecondChance and can be contacted at contact@thenics.dev.

Discord independently processes information under its own privacy policy. Server owners and staff may also have their own rules and privacy notices for activity in their community.

02

Data SecondChance accesses

  • Member data: Discord user IDs, usernames, display names and configured role membership.
  • Message metadata: message, author, channel and server IDs, plus timestamps needed for moderation and deduplication.
  • Message content: text, links, embeds and attachments processed for compromised-account cleanup and the administrator-configured news relay.
  • Moderation data: audit-log IDs, moderator and target identifiers, action type, reason, changes and timestamp.
  • Configuration: server, channel, role and dashboard-message IDs, plus configured moderation windows.
  • Aggregates: moderator message and action totals used for the private staff-accountability dashboard.

SecondChance does not collect presence or activity status, does not build advertising profiles and does not use Discord data to train machine-learning or AI models.

03

Why the data is used

Data is processed only to:

  • detect configured member-role changes and activate the restricted-account workflow;
  • remove recent messages from accounts staff identify as compromised or harmful;
  • support staff review, account recovery and appeal procedures;
  • record Discord moderation and AutoMod actions for accountability and security;
  • produce aggregate moderator-activity dashboards; and
  • relay complete news items between specifically configured Discord channels.

Processing is limited to what is necessary to operate these requested server features, protect community members and maintain an accountable moderation record.

04

Storage and security

Operational records are stored on privately controlled infrastructure. Stored SecondChance data is encrypted at rest using authenticated encryption. The encryption key is kept separately from the encrypted data and access is restricted to the operator. Connections to Discord use encrypted HTTPS or Gateway connections.

Message bodies and attachments are not retained in SecondChance's off-platform data store. News content is held temporarily in memory while it is copied to the configured destination inside Discord. The relay retains only the last processed Discord message ID to prevent duplicates.

No security measure is infallible. If a data incident materially affects users, Thenics will investigate, contain it and provide notices where required.

05

Retention

Server configuration is retained while SecondChance remains configured for that server. Moderator identifiers, aggregate activity totals and audit metadata may be retained for longer than 30 days where the server has requested historical or all-time accountability reporting. Audit-event history is operationally capped, and information is deleted or anonymized when it is no longer needed, when the bot is decommissioned from the relevant server, or following a valid deletion request unless retention is necessary for security, dispute resolution or law.

Message content used by the news relay is transient and is not retained off-platform after processing. Discord copies remain subject to the destination server's own retention and deletion practices.

06

Sharing and sale

Discord data is not sold, rented, used for targeted advertising or shared with data brokers. It is disclosed only to Discord as needed to operate the bot, to infrastructure providers that support the service, to authorized staff in the relevant Discord server, or where legally required. Staff dashboards and moderation logs remain within their configured Discord channels.

07

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may ask what personal data is held about you, request a copy, correction, deletion or restriction, or object to certain processing. You may also raise a concern with your local data-protection authority. Requests are handled without discrimination.

08

DATA REQUESTS

Request access or deletion

Email contact@thenics.dev with the subject SecondChance data request. Include your Discord user ID and the name or ID of the relevant server. Do not send your password, bot token or authentication codes.

  1. We acknowledge the request and may ask you to verify control of the Discord account.
  2. We identify records associated with the supplied Discord user ID.
  3. We delete or anonymize eligible identifiers, aggregates and audit records and confirm completion.

We aim to complete verified requests within 30 days. If some information must be retained for security, dispute resolution or a legal obligation, we will explain the reason and retain only what is necessary. You may also contact Thenics_SMC through a staff or privacy ticket in a server where SecondChance operates.
